Daniel Schlier was born in 1960 in Dannemarie, France. He now lives and works between Strasbourg and Paris where he teaches drawing at the Beaux-Arts academy. Previously, he has been teaching painting at the HEAR (Fine Arts) Academy of Strasbourg.
Numerous personal exhibitions have been dedicated to his work in France, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, Russia and Belgium. Daniel Schlier also took part in many collective exhibitions in Italy, China and the United-States. Some of his artworks are present in prestigious French institutional collections such as the municipal collection of the Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain de Strasbourg and the contemporary art collection of the city of Paris.
The artistic pratice of Daniel Schlier is characterized by its versatility as he is simultaneously a painter, a printmaker and an illustrator. He uses multiple mediums and substrates such as marble, glass, wood and canvas. The work of Daniel Schlier is oriented towards a reflection on visual representation aided by a strong sense of composition and an oniric imagery that disrupts the way we look at art.
